How I Got Over

When I first gave this song to my character Azulee to sing in church, I was well aware of Aretha Franklin’s version. But she learned it from the woman who wrote the song, Clara Ward, whose version is terrific too. And to write the scene where Azulee sings, I relied heavily on this video of John Legend going back to his roots to sing it.
