Union Maid

I grew up with an album called “Talking Almanac,” which included this song, a rousing call to union activism. I couldn’t get it out of my mind as I wrote about my character Bess Horowitz, daughter of a UAW union man and employee of the Retail Workers’ Union. Pete Seeger’s version is the best (ignore the sexism in the last verse, the rest is great).
